Introduction For years, process automation was the natural response to operational problems.

If there were errors, validations were added.

If volume increased, more tools were introduced.

Today, many mid-sized and large companies have more automation than ever… and yet they continue to lose money due to operational errors, rework, penalties, and lack of coordination across teams.

The problem is no longer executing processes.

The Myth That More Automation Solves the Problem When an operational issue appears, the typical reaction is: “We need to automate this.” The assumption behind that statement is dangerous: that automating is the same as controlling.

In practice, automation focuses on making something happen .

It executes tasks, moves information, triggers actions.

But it rarely asks: Who governs the entire process? Who sees the real status while it is happening? What happens if someone does not act? Where is deviation detected before it creates impact? When processes span multiple teams, automating without control only accelerates chaos . quote “When you automate something, the benefits grow exponentially, but so does the waste.” The Real Problem: Cross-Functional Processes Without Governance When a company is small, many processes work through informal coordination.

People know each other, talk directly, and solve issues on the fly.

This model is fragile, but it works while complexity is low.

The problem appears when the company grows.
